It's not about understanding how to communicate. It's about understanding the medium and how to use it.
-Former Dean Campaign Manager Joe Trippi on the potential of the Internet in political campaigns. Trippi spoke at an SMPA conference on June 4. |

About Us
Welcome to the Web site of the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University. Here you can learn about the extraordinary opportunities that await you in our state-of-the-art facilities in the heart of the nation's capital. Here, too, you will feel our enthusiasm for our work as scholars, researchers, journalists and communicators, and our dedication to our students. I invite you to browse through the site. It will answer many of the questions you may have about our school.
At the School of Media and Public Affairs, you will be able to experience first-hand how media and politics interact. You can study with the best of the country's political journalists, learn how to produce television and Internet content, and explore the interaction of the people who make the news and those who cover the newsmakers.
Here we learn theory to understand practice. We are committed to a liberal arts approach to the study of news, entertainment and politics.
That's why our students not only attend class, but work at the White House, on Capitol Hill, at CNN, and at major public relations firms and with Senators and Congressmen.
When you join us at GW, you will study with professors whose research is published in major journals, with journalists who have covered presidential campaigns, international conflicts and major social movements, and with video producers and directors.
We hope you will consider the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University and join us in our exploration of the role of communication in the Twenty-First Century.
