Background
After retiring from The Washington Post in 2004, Mason McAllister started working with the Boston University Washington Journalism Semester as newsroom manager. He works with students who are covering Capitol Hill for a semester and edits their stories before they are filed with client newspapers in New England.
For 34 years he was an editor at Post. He started at The Post in 1970 as a copy editor of the Style section and worked his way up to manage copy and layout for Style. When he retired he was a design editor for the Metro Extras, where he was responsible for the layout and production of some of the 16 local zoned sections published by The Post.
Prior to his career at The Washington Post, McAllister served as editorial page copy editor at The Detroit Free Press. While still an undergraduate student, he was copy editor for the editorial page of The Atlanta
Constitution.
McAllister taught part-time at The American University before he started teaching at The George Washington University in 1985.
