Prospective Majors

If you're already a GW undergrad and you're interested in a major within the School of Media and Public Affairs, this is what you should do:

Use this site to explore the major area of study, Journalism or Political Communication, that most appeals to you.

Set up an appointment with the program director of your desired major to discuss your interest and what you can do to become a competitive applicant. Contact information for program directors can be found under the curriculum links for each major.

Sample a prerequisite course or two during your freshman year or the fall of your sophomore year to get a sense of whether the major is right for you. SMPA 50: Introduction to Media and Public Affairs is a good place to start. (As a Columbian College student, you can count the course as an elective or other CCAS requirement should you choose not to apply to SMPA.)

And if you are ready to apply, print out the transfer application of your desired major and return completed form to an SMPA secretary, located on the 4th floor of the Media and Public Affairs building (805 21st Street, NW).
