Undergraduate Programs
As an undergraduate student at the School of Media and Public Affairs, you'll experience unique program offerings and opportunities, many of which extend into the surrounding Washington, D.C. community.
Our school offers two major areas of study: Journalism, and Political Communication.
A partnership with GW's Graduate School of Political Management allows us to offer a BA/MA a bachelor's and a master's degree in five years' saving you one year's tuition.
Launched this year, the Broadcast Summer is an exciting 10-week program that provides an insider's look into the creation of public affairs television shows.
Applying to SMPA
As a prospective student, you can apply directly to one of the SMPA programs, Journalism or Political Communication when completing the application for admission to The George Washington University.
The GW application is completed in two parts. Indicate on Part I that you wish to apply to the School of Media and Public Affairs. You will receive Part II of the GW application after Part I is received by the University. Part II includes an additional essay tailored to the SMPA major of your choice. Make sure you sell yourself in that essay?this is your chance to demonstrate why you should be admitted to the school.

Currently-enrolled GW students should apply to SMPA majors during the fall semester of the sophomore year.
