The Jacob Burns Law Library seeks a specialist to provide instructional applications and media services assistance to support the faculty, staff, students, and guests who are using instructional technologies at the law school, with primary responsibilities for the systems and software featured in the Jacob Burns Moot Court Room. Americans United to Protect Social Security

Americans United to Protect Social Security is a national grassroots campaign to defeat President Bush’s plan to privatize Social Security – a proposal that would slash our guaranteed benefit and explode the national debt. Despite Americans’ overwhelming disapproval of this risky investment scheme, the President and his supporters in congress are showing no signs of letting up. We need your help in this historic fight, and a number of internship opportunities will be available this summer.

Communications Intern
Interns will be working with the Communications Department at AUPSS headquarters in Washington D.C., and responsibilities will include alerting press about AUPSS events across the country, assisting with press events, and updating the database.

National Event Intern
Interns will be assisting the Director of Surrogates at the AUPSS headquarters in Washington D.C. with town halls and press events in each targeted state. Interns will help recruit experts and elected officials to speak, find families to testify against privatization, and assist with the logistics of each event.

Human Rights Campaign Media Studio Internship

The HRC Media Center is a full-service broadcast/multimedia production
state-of-the-art facility, designed for rapid delivery of audio and
video messages. The studio accommodates live radio and video broadcasts
via fiber optic lines, recording of statements and messages, and
downlinking and recording broadcasts.

In the Media Center, HRC produces a weekly video address by HRC
President Joe Solmonese; videos for gala dinners, corporate trainings,
community events, pride events, the HRC Action Center; as well as ads
and PSAs to communicate and disseminate HRC's messages. The Media Center
will also serve the multimedia needs of other like-minded organizations.


We are looking for a summer intern to start immediately, and can work
until August.

Catalog and maintain HRC's archive videos

The Web Manager will:
• Maintain website content and process updates

• Develop, edit, and provide graphic design services for high-visibility projects in both print and electronic media, including various newsletters, flyers, brochures, conference material, and portions of the website

Communications Associate/Manager Oakland, California Office

FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDs California is a state branch of a national, non-profit advocacy organization comprised of over 2,500 police chiefs, sheriffs, district attorneys and crime survivors. This active membership, including over 300 in California, believes that a key strategy in preventing crime is investing in programs that gets kids started on the right track and to keep them out of trouble, so they are less likely to turn to crime. The major issue areas are preschool, after-school programs, foster care, and youth mental health services.

Responsibilities: The Communications Associate/Manager will be based in Oakland. He or she will have primary responsibility for the development and implementation of FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDs California’s earned media strategy, which is centered on putting forward law enforcement leaders and crime survivors to call for public investments in young people that are proven to prevent crime.

Responsibilities include:

--- Generating media attention. Working affirmatively to get media coverage of FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS California work products such as the release of reports, polls, surveys and other research.

--- Rapid response media relations. Generate media opportunities for law enforcement leaders and crime survivors to present FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDs’ message in the media. Activities include writing and placing op-eds and letters-to-the-editor, organizing meetings with editorial boards, scheduling radio and TV talk show appearances, and responding to media requests.

--- Strategy and message development. Develop short- and long-term strategic communications strategies for the organization. Manage message development and consistency for all public discourse.

Qualifications: This position requires excellent analytic capacity, well-developed written and oral communications skills and a strong working knowledge of California’s media markets. The ideal candidate will bring successful experience working on "earned" media and issue advocacy campaigns. Familiarity with issues affecting kids is a plus. This position is perfect for a junior-level professional that has already developed some media relations skills and is ready to put them to the test in a nonprofit advocacy environment. There is ample opportunity to develop this job into a senior-level staff position.

BEYOND PRODUCTIONS Internship

BEYOND PRODUCTIONS here in DC is interested in placing two internship positions. One, to work in our development department and a second for production. FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS has had a significant impact in helping to expand federal and state public investments in Head Start and other early childhood education and care programs and after-school programs.

Over the next several years, we expect to continue advocating for more investments for those programs, while expanding our work on child abuse and neglect prevention and efforts to help troubled kids get back on track.

We are seeking an energetic and creative Communications Associate for our Washington, DC office to assist in developing and implementing a communications strategy producing measurable results. The Communications Associate will report to the Communications Director and help supervise interns. The communications department is a three-person staff plus intern(s).

Responsibilities:

Ø Assists in development of communication plans and messages with Communications Director; develops messages for FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS.

Ø Develops and implements communication plan, including recommending news events, news hooks, and other communications strategies.

Ø Plans and implements news conferences and other media events.

Ø Prepares press releases, advisories, editorial memoranda, op-eds, letters to the editor, fact sheets, stories for our member newsletter and other media material as necessary.

Ø Copy edits organization’s research reports

Ø Pitches stories and appearances to:
· Reporters
· Columnists
· Editorial Writers
· Broadcast producers, reporters and hosts

Ø Manages Communications Department essential responsibilities:
· Daily media monitoring
· Maintenance of clip files, clip tracking, clip scanning, and other necessary records
· Reports on media activity
· Services provided to other departments, state offices
· Assists in supervising intern staff

Ø Provides media relations support when necessary to FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS state directors and state staff in CA, NY, IL, PA, MI, ME, OR, OH and TN.

Qualifications: One- to two-years media or public relations experience. We are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic, initiative-taking and hands-on individual with a passion for children and crime prevention. We expect you to have strong oral and written communication skills. You should be familiar with print, broadcast and online media, and the special requirements of each. Applicants must possess strong interpersonal skills and a sense of humor along with the ability to juggle multiple projects and shift gears as necessary.

Pluses: Established personal contacts with key members of the media; familiarity with the legislative process and with policies affecting children and youth; prior experience working with the law enforcement community.

Salary: Low $30K's, plus excellent benefits.
