May 5, 2015: Fifth Annual SMPA Alumni Networking Event. SMPA Director Frank Sesno and fellow media and public affairs alumni attended a reception at the Beacon Hotel. Alumni learned about new SMPA programs and initiatives.
April 8, 2015: Working the Midterm Elections. Four SMPA Alumni came together to discuss the work they did in the 2014 midterm elections. The event was moderated by Professor Steven Roberts, and a short reception followed the event. Panelists included Andrew Feldman, founder of Feldman Strategies; Jennifer Nedeau, Director of Strategic Communication at Bully Pulpit Interactive; Megan Whittemore, Communications Director for U.S. Senator David Perdue; and David Kanevsky, Vice President at American Viewpoint.
March 23, 2015: Non-Profit Communication: Challenges, Triumphs, and How to Get Your Start. At this discussion, SMPA alumni who work in non-profit communication spoke about how they got started in their careers and what challenges they face on a daily basis.
September 9, 2014: Covering the Midterm Elections. The School of Media and Public Affairs hosted a panel discussion featuring GWU alumni on the 2014 races, the potential outcomes, and politics in Washington D.C.
April 29, 2014: Fourth Annual Alumni Networking Event. Alumni joined faculty and staff at NPR Headquarters in Washington, DC, where they were able to tour the building, catch up with old friends and professors, and hear from NPR's national political correspondent Mara Liasson and SMPA Director Frank Sesno.
September 28, 2013: Professor Steve Roberts, J.B. and M.C. Shapiro Professor of Media and Public Affairs, delivered a lecture during Alumni Weekend 2013 on “Media, Politics, and the National Mood,” how new media is changing the way candidates communicate, voters think and politics operate.
April 20, 2013: Alumni/Student Networking Salon: Campaign 2012. Several alumni and current students gave short presentations on their work with political campaigns, followed by a Q&A with the audience. Afterward, students networked with alumni during a reception. Guest alumni included: Andrew Clark, Andrew Feldman, Nick Fabiani, Sam Levenback, Tim Miller, Madeline Twomey and Eric Walker. Guest students included: Katherine Rodriguez and Myles Hayward Selib.
March 20, 2013: Journalism Student/Alumni Career Networking Salon. Students met several alumni who have used their SMPA degree to pursue careers in some unique as well as traditional jobs. Guest alumni included: Rob Hendin, Ryan Holeywell, Mosheh Oinounou and Reena Ninan.
March 7, 2013: Private SMPA alumni-only networking reception at the home of Dana Bash, BA '93.
February 28, 2013: Political Communication Student/Alumni Career Networking Salon. Students met several alumni who have used their SMPA degree to pursue careers in some unique as well as traditional jobs.
