As the only school of its kind in the capital of politics and media, the School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA) brings Washington into our classrooms. Our students engage with the world around them through internships and access to decision makers, community leaders and power brokers.

Despite the bustle of GW's urban campus, SMPA students experience a genuine sense of community and connection fostered through small classes, frequent SMPA-exclusive events and a sense of common purpose. Our faculty members inspire an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit to reflect the demands of the media and the marketplace. SMPA's future graduates come to Washington with ambitious goals, curious minds and diverse backgrounds and are challenged to think deeply, creatively and globally. They develop a deep understanding about the media's complex role in the way people connect with one another and are informed and governed. Our graduates are future leaders in government, politics, business and journalism.

SMPA Students Excel in Social Sciences

USA TODAY College recently ranked GW as the number one college for majors in the social sciences. The social science discipline is the scientific study of social life of human groups and individuals. At GW, we provide students with the tools and experiences necessary to develop critical thinking skills and a deep understanding of the world around them.
