Research Professor of Media and Public Affairs Anneliese (Lisa) Palmer is an American reporter, author, editor, researcher, and public speaker specializing in human adaptation to environmental change and security, and an educator training journalists in cross-disciplinary communication about biodiversity loss, food and environmental security, and climate change. She examines media and public discourse at the nexus of science, environment, and sustainability.

As Research Professor of Media and Public Affairs, Palmer is an affiliate faculty with GW's Climate and Health Institute and Global Food Institute. GW's VP of Research awarded her a Cross Disciplinary Research Fund Grant for her collaboration with Dr. Susan Anenberg to inform journalists on how to better cover climate and health issues. She researches and advises on science journalism, sustainability communication, and environmental issues.

Palmer is a Global Fellow at the Wilson Center’s Environmental Security and Change Program Her research centers on leveraging science and communication for environmental security and peace. She serves her professional society as the Editorial Director for Events at the Society of Environmental Journalists. Palmer has over 20 years of experience as a journalist, author, program manager, and leader, covering topics such as climate change, energy, food security, natural resource scarcity, and public health for national and international media outlets, non-profits, and academic institutions. She is the author of Hot, Hungry Planet: The Fight to Stop a Food Crisis in the Face of Climate Change (St. Martin’s Press; 2017).
