The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA), founded in 1911, is America’s oldest and largest nonprofit association devoted to excellence in the delivery of legal services to those who cannot afford counsel. For 100 years, NLADA has pioneered access to justice at the national, state and local level through the creation of our public defender systems, groundbreaking legislation and the creation of institutions from the Sentencing Project to the Legal Services Corporation. A leader in the development of national standards for indigent defense services, NLADA also provides advocacy, training and technical assistance to indigent defense programs across the country.

NLADA’s Communications Intern will provide support to the Communications Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Important duties that occupy a major portion of time in the job)

  • Assist Communications Department with various tasks as assigned
  • Posting and monitoring NLADA social media activities including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and other social media sites
  • Draft short articles and other content as needed
  • Assist with website editing and updating content
  • Monitoring media and news
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED

(Minimum education and experience needed to perform the job adequately)

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum of one (1) year experience working experience. Strong organizational skills and keen detail-orientation
  • Demonstrated work ethic and positive attitude
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software - including PowerPoint
  • Strong digital social media skills including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram
  • Solid writing skills in AP style
  • Digital graphic skills highly desirable
