Hurricane Irma devastated a number of economies in the Caribbean in 2017. The World Bank is working in one of these post-hurricane economies on a range of projects to help support households and businesses.
One of these projects is designed to support small businesses with loans and grants. These loan and grant packages will be administered by local financial institutions, and the overall project will be overseen by a project management team that will be hired specifically for the project. As the World Bank team completes the design of the small business program before transferring it to the dedicated project management team, there are a number of communication materials that need to be developed.
These communication materials range from FAQs, infographics, poster designs, social media content and scripts for the project management team to follow. For these tasks, the World Bank is looking for a winter communications intern. This is a paid position.
Responsibilities
In collaboration with the World Bank team, the communications intern is expected to:
- Gain a sound understanding of the context of the project and the communication needs
- Brainstorm with the World Bank team on the final set of communication materials
- Develop a plan and timetable for the final set of communication materials
- Share initial drafts of the communication materials
- Determine final printing formats and sizes in collaboration with stakeholders in the field
- Deliver the final set of communication materials in soft copy
Qualifications
- Undergraduate student in a field related to communications, media, design, or public relations
- Good writing skills and a high level of expertise in design software
- Is a team player and a keen learner
- Interest in international development is a plus
Logistics
- The start date is early December 2018 and the end date is mid-January 2019
- The remuneration will be based on a competitive hourly rate
- The expected total number of hours is between 56 to 80 hours
- The World Bank team is based in Washington, DC and this is the preferred location for this nternship, however it is possible for some of this work to be completed remotely
- It is not expected that the intern will travel to the field
- Work authorization is required
- Ownership of any communications assets will be transferred to the World Bank at completion
- It is expected that the intern has the requisite design software installed already
