GW TO HOST FIVE FORMER WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARIES IN "LIVE FROM THE WHITE HOUSE: MAKING AND SHAPING THE NEWS"

Ari Fleischer, Joe Lockhart, Mike McCurry, Dee Dee Myers and Dana Perino To Sit Down With GW School of Media and Public Affairs Director Frank Sesno

EVENT: Five former White House press secretaries – Ari Fleischer, Joe Lockhart, Mike McCurry, Dee Dee Myers and Dana Perino – will sit down with George Washington University's School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA) Director Frank Sesno in a "Conversation Series" event to investigate the challenges, history and politics of the role and the changing media landscape. They will share their insights on making and shaping news as a White House press secretary, the government's most visible communicator. SMPA Fellow and CNN Senior White House Correspondent Ed Henry, will deliver brief remarks on the dynamic between modern media and the White House.

BACKGROUND: From the most powerful podium in the world, these five individuals influenced the news agenda while representing the President of the United States.  Joe Lockhart, Mike McCurry and Dee Dee Myers served under President William Jefferson Clinton.  Dana Perino and Ari Fleischer both served under President George W. Bush.  Mr. Lockhart is currently a fellow in GW’s School of Media and Public Affairs teaching a class together with Mr. Henry.  Ms. Perino was an adjunct faculty member in GW's Graduate School of Political Management in fall 2010.
