Internships for Planet Forward

Student Reporter

The student reporter will find and report on interesting innovations, characters, and events from GW and other Planet Forward contributing universities, as well as the environmental, science, and journalism communities. The student reporter also may assist with research and writing for various Planet Forward productions and events, and the production of the editorial side of our website. All work will be posted on PlanetForward.org.

Responsibilities:

Work as the "Planet Forward" beat reporter, covering anything related to the environment, storytelling, our member schools and our contributors/correspondents

Contribute to the weekly Planet Forward newsletter

Perform research and site maintenance tasks as assigned to assist the Senior Managing Editor

Foster community through engagement via Planet Forward social media properties

Qualifications:

Strong journalism background and storytelling skills

Preferred: Experience using a content management system (CMS), such as Drupal or WordPress

Video Production Intern

The video production intern will be involved in producing original video content for PlanetForward.org. This is essentially a field reporter position requiring knowledge and an awareness of on-campus and nearby events.

Responsibilities:

Cover events around the metropolitan area

Shoot and edit interviews with leaders in environmental and sustainability policy

Pitch, shoot and edit video packages for PlanetForward.org

Perform research and site maintenance tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

Passionate about Web video

Good understanding of Web video format (e.g., what makes a YouTube video go viral)

Experience operating high definition cameras

Experience with Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere editing software

Experience with Adobe AfterEffects or Apple Motion (optional)

Strong journalism background and storytelling skills
