Jacob Helberg

Jacob Helberg is a senior adviser at the Stanford University Center on Geopolitics and Technology and an adjunct fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Helberg is also the cochair of the Brookings Institution China Strategy Initiative. From 2016 to 2020, Helberg led Google’s internal global product policy efforts to combat disinformation and foreign interference, including policy and enforcement processes against state-backed foreign interference, misinformation, and actors undermining election integrity. Some of his top areas of focus include developing product policies protecting news products against disinformation, promoting a more transparent and accountable news ecosystem, and creating new protections for victims of synthetic involuntary pornography and online doxing seeking the removal of their personal information from Search results. Jacob wrote Google's company-wide policy strategy against foreign interference and helped lead internal investigations against coordinated and inauthentic state-sponsored activity.

Prior to joining Google, Jacob co-founded Geoquant, a startup that combines political science with big data computer science to help global investors forecast geopolitical risk. Jacob graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in International Affairs from the George Washington University.
