Meet Sarah Morrisette

Director of Special Projects and Administration

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself
I'm originally from Central Pennsylvania and moved to D.C. about 11 years ago for a job at GW—and I've been here ever since! I’ve been happily married for the past three years, and my husband and I are currently expecting our first child in the Fall—a little girl! It’s an exciting time. Professionally, I’ve had the opportunity to work in higher ed for over a decade, and I really enjoy being part of a community that values learning and connection.

2. When did you come to GW? What has been your favorite memory or top accomplishment?
I came to GW in 2014, and one of my favorite accomplishments was launching the new University website on an updated Drupal platform in 2016. I was the lead project manager and it was a massive overhaul and I’ll never forget the energy and excitement our team felt seeing it go live. It was a true team effort and such a rewarding moment to see all that hard work come together in such a visible and impactful way.

3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
This is always a tough question for me—I've learned how quickly life can change, so I try not to plan too far ahead when it comes to my career. That said, I do hope I’m still working in higher ed, continuing to grow professionally and making a positive impact on students’ lives. It’s a field I care deeply about and I’m motivated by the opportunity to support and shape the student experience in meaningful ways.

4. What do you find the most rewarding in your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is absolutely the students. I love when they stop by my office just to chat and it’s incredibly fulfilling to watch them grow year after year and succeed in their own unique ways. There’s also something really special about leaving the office—especially after a big event day—knowing that we pulled off something meaningful and fun together. That sense of shared accomplishment is what keeps me inspired.

5. Do you have any advice for students interested in studying at SMPA or GW?
My biggest piece of advice is to get involved—don’t be afraid to dive in and make the most of your time here. Let us know what you’re interested in, what events you loved (or didn’t!), and don’t hesitate to shoot me an email. We want to hear from you. Also, as cliché as it sounds, enjoy this time. College really can be some of the best years of your life. You’ll have the rest of your life to be an adult, so take this time to explore, grow, and enjoy being young.
