Six School of Media and Public Affairs students have been selected as 2018 Planet Forward Storyfest finalists. The Storyfest Awards recognize the best environmental storytelling told by college students and the 2018 grand prize winners will travel on a weeklong storytelling expedition with eco-tourism pioneers Lindblad Expeditions in June 2018.
The students are:

Ashley Gallagher (JMC ‘20) is nominated for Most Creativity in the Art of Environmental Storytelling for their video, “We've been 'shellfish' enough already: It's time to take care of the Chesapeake Bay.”
- Laura Whaling (JMC ‘18) is nominated for Best Use of Science or Data in Environmental Storytelling for her video “Corn ethanol is a renewable energy, but is it clean?” and for the GW Prize for her video “D.C.'s new waterfront: The neighbor the Potomac River needs.”
- Jade Jasmine Hurley (PCM ‘20) is nominated for the Best Scalable Innovation for her video “Period products and the environment.”
- Maura Fallon (JMC ‘19) is nominated for the GW Prize for her article and photo essay “What lessons can the women of Bangladesh teach us?”
- Matilda Kreider (PCM ‘20) is nominated for the GW Prize for her article “Barriers to experience: Understanding race in professional environmentalism.”
- Connor Muldowney (JMC ‘18) is nominated for the GW Prize for his video “Endangered hawksbill sea turtles rebounding in Belize.”
The winners will be announced at the Planet Forward Summit held at the George Washington University from April 5 – 6.
