The Advocacy and Data Intern will work closely with the Advocacy, Research and Foundation Teams to research, track and report issues relevant to travel and tourism. In addition to general office duties, the intern will support the development of written deliverables including presentations, blogs, memos, policy briefs, fact sheets and other advocacy materials. The Intern will work primarily with two online database systems to track political and media content. Strong data mining and analysis skills as well as professional writing and verbal communication skills are a must. Strong familiarity with American politics and the legislative processes as well as general familiarity with other political systems (Canada, Mexico, European Union, etc.) are preferred.
Preference is given to graduate and undergraduate students, but recent non-students and graduates should still consider applying. The internship in located in Destinations International’s Washington, D.C. office with a commitment of 15-20 hours per week. The internship is non-salaried. A modest stipend, based on experience and knowledge, will be provided. Approved expenses will be reimbursed. Out of town travel may be required. Financial assistance for relocation, transportation or housing is not available.
Depending on schedules, the Advocacy and Data Intern may have the opportunity to attend hearings, think tank panels, advocacy meetings and other industry events and provide briefings regarding those events to the team.
This position is funded by the Destinations International Foundation and reports to the Foundation’s Director of Research and Analytics. The internship is scheduled to begin on Monday January 28, 2019 and end Friday May 17, 2019, with the ability to accommodate school and vacation schedules. In addition to learning the daily operations of an international trade association, this internship provides individuals with the opportunity to develop technical and leadership skills that will board their professional network and understanding of the tourism sector.
