To the SMPA Community,
Over the past days, we have been watching the Russian military invasion of Ukraine and its tragic consequences. I strongly condemn the invasion of a sovereign country, and I believe in finding peaceful ways to address and resolve conflict. Also, this situation reminds us of the importance of staying vigilant about disinformation flows and their toxic consequences, espousing a critical attitude about news coverage and propaganda, and remembering the painful trauma and the human cost of war and conflict.
I echo President Wrighton’s statement last week that members of our community may be particularly affected by this evolving situation, and that we understand the worry and fear that some may be experiencing. I want to assure you that not only are there resources at GW, such as the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement; Counseling and Psychological Services; Advocacy & Support; Student Affairs; Human Resources; or Faculty Affairs, but that my door is always open if you need to reach out. Please know that the SMPA community is here to support you.
