Since 2000, Hua has been the Associate Professor in the School of Economics and Management at the Communication University of China (CUC) where the main courses she teaches include FIlm Production, Appreciation of Classical Movies, and Creativity of Cultural Products and Marketing. In 2001, she won three Central Media Awards for Excellence in Media Education and is the four-time winner of the Excellent Teacher Award. From 2006-2008 she served as the Script Editor in the Digital Movie Department in the China Central Television Movie Channel (CCTV-6), where she also offered suggestions to movie producers and adaptors before the channel made the decision to invest in them. Finally, from 1999-2000, she worked as the journalist and editor for Half the Sky for the CCTV-1, a TV program that lasted for 15 years.
