Meet Sarah Morrisette
Director of Special Projects and Administration
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself
I'm originally from Central Pennsylvania (Mechanicsburg) and a proud graduate of Susquehanna University. I came to DC 11 years ago for a job at GW (Thank you, Josh Schimmerling)—and I've been here ever since! I am the oldest of three sisters, I love to read and watch all things Bravo. I currently live in Centreville, Virginia with my husband.
2. What has been your favorite memory or top accomplishment?
One of my favorite memories/accomplishments was launching the new University website on an updated Drupal platform in 2016. I was the lead project manager and it was a massive overhaul. I’ll never forget the energy and excitement our team felt seeing it go live. It was a true team effort and such a rewarding moment to see all that hard work come together in such a visible and impactful way.
3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
This is always a tough question for me—I've learned how quickly life can change, so I try not to plan too far ahead when it comes to my career. That said, I do hope I’m still working in higher education, continuing to grow professionally and making a positive impact on students’ lives. It’s a field I care deeply about and I’m motivated by the opportunity to support and shape the student experience in meaningful ways.
4. What do you find to be the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is the students and my staff. I love when students stop by my office just to chat and it’s incredibly fulfilling to watch them grow year after year and succeed in their own unique ways. I also have an amazing staff. I am so lucky every day to be able to work with them and learn from them. There’s something really special about leaving the office—especially after a big event day—knowing that we pulled off something meaningful and fun together. That sense of shared accomplishment is what keeps me inspired.
5. Do you have any advice for students interested in studying at SMPA or GW?
My biggest piece of advice is to get involved—don’t be afraid to dive in and make the most of your time here. Let us know what you’re interested in, what events you loved (or didn’t!) and don’t hesitate to shoot me an email. We want to hear from you. Also, as cliché as it sounds, enjoy this time. College really can be some of the best years of your life. You’ll have the rest of your life to be an adult, so take this time to explore, grow and enjoy being young.
