SMPA’s National Council met last Friday to get updates on GW and our program, and to talk about ways in which they can continue to support our community. The Council is made up of 22 leaders in journalism and communication. Most are GW and SMPA alumni. All are fully committed to SMPA and your success.
In addition to general information on SMPA (how many students we have this year, how many faculty are on campus or out for one reason or another, and so on) the Council participated in conversations with our Terker Fellows, a few of your professors, and a couple of your classmates. Friday’s meeting was a chance to show some of our strongest supporters what it means to study, shape, and tell the stories that matter.
A lot of the special things we do in SMPA, from the Sesno Series, to giving grants to students in un- and under-paid internships, to helping your professors promote their work, and much more is possible because of the National Council. You may not always see it or feel it, but you have a lot of fans and supporters beyond 805 21st St. who are very proud of you and what we do here.
