Mikayla Newton

Mikayla Newton joined the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA) as an adjunct faculty member for the 2026–27 academic year. A Georgia native, she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism, with a minor in Spanish, from Georgia State University. She also holds a master’s degree in communications from Syracuse University.

Before joining the George Washington University faculty, Newton worked as a reporter for Maryland Public Television, and reporter/anchor for CTV News, and DC News Now. She also serves as a guest host on FOX 5 and Living Local DMV. She began her career at CNN in Atlanta, where she worked as an associate producer and cross-platform production assistant.

Outside of work, Newton enjoys traveling, cooking, gardening, trying new activities, reading, writing, practicing self-care, spending time with her family, and serving her community.

Newton is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the National Association of Black Journalists.
