The Role

Title: Public Relations and Government Affairs Intern

Company: Prism Group

Location: Washington, D.C.

Time commitment: September - December, full- or part-time (no less than 3 days per week)

Compensation: Unpaid, $100 monthly travel stipend provided

The Firm

Prism Group is a public relations and government affairs firm headquartered in Washington, D.C. We amplify the awareness of issues globally that affect our clients by identifying, recruiting, educating, and mobilizing local and regional support through the media, third-party influencers, and policy-makers. Our goal is to reframe media narratives, shape public opinion, and directly impact legislation.

The Details

At Prism Group, you will gain hands-on experiences in integrated public relations and government affairs practices while developing an understanding of a wide range of business, political, and economic issues in the U.S. and abroad. The Day-to-Day

  • Prepare daily newsletter and media clips for internal team and clients
  • Draft press release outlines and briefing documents
  • Occasionally attend Congressional Hearings and prepare briefing memos
  • Conduct background research on various topics and draft briefs based on findings
  • Support planning and execution of events, including client fly-ins and “Hill Days”
  • Assist in planning and executing social media strategy on multiple platforms
  • Assist other colleagues in editing case studies
  • Conduct basic administrative duties

The “Right Stuff”

  • Background in PR, communications, international relations, political science or government
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
  • Avid user of popular social media platforms with knowledge of trends, keywords, etc
  • Excellent time-management skills, ability to meet deadlines, and attention to detail
  • Must be able to work independently, but collaborate with others to accomplish tasks
