Undergrad Trio Wins Big

March 24, 2010

Three SMPA undergraduate students can now count themselves among the journalism legends that have received top honors from the American Women in Radio and Television.

Victoria Riess (PC '10), Haley Lesavoy (JMC '12) and Mark Abramson (JMC and Fine Arts '10) entered their piece, "Engage, Enlighten, Educate," and won the Outstanding Feature in Soft News category among all local, public and student entrants.

"Engage, Enlighten, Educate" examines how early education can make children feel more responsible about the environment. Watch it here!

"It's an honor to receive such a prestigious award this early in our careers. It never would have been possible to enjoy this moment without the constant help and support from Professor Pohl, Frank Sesno and SMPA," Riess said.

The piece was produced in conjunction with Planet Forward. "This is simply fantastic," said SMPA Director and Planet Forward Founder Frank Sesno.

Director Sesno also produced a Planet Forward webisode on the piece. Sign up to become part of the Planet Forward community and watch the webisode here!
